We sat down with Traci Slater, Assistant Manager, SDU – ReSource Pro Compliance, US, to discuss the growing demand for specialty licensing support and how the company has expanded its team to meet that need. Specialty licenses—such as those for TPAs, MGAs, Reinsurance Intermediary Brokers/ Managers (RIB/RIM), adjusters, and risk purchasing groups—come with complex regulatory requirements that vary by state.
In this Q&A, Traci shares how ReSource Pro’s expanded Specialty Licensing Team is streamlining the process, providing expert guidance, and helping clients navigate compliance more efficiently.
Why did ReSource Pro decide to expand its Specialty Licensing Team, and how has it evolved over the past year?
We saw a growing need for specialized licensing support in the industry. A lot of organizations don’t realize just how complicated these licenses can be; each state has different requirements, and many businesses assume they need an attorney to handle the process, which can be costly. We’ve always offered specialty licensing, but we wanted to build a dedicated team that could provide expert guidance, work directly with regulators, and make the process more efficient for our clients.
Over the past year, we’ve grown our team, increasing our collective experience to over 30 years in this field. We’ve also refined our processes, creating custom checklists and training programs to help clients understand exactly what they need to do. The goal is to make licensing easier, more cost-effective, and faster so that businesses can focus on growth instead of getting caught up in compliance roadblocks.
What types of specialty licenses does the team handle, and how do they differ from standard P&C licenses?
We handle licensing for TPAs, MGAs, RPGs, RIBs, RIMs, Viatical Settlement Brokers, , and adjusters, areas with stricter compliance rules and complex state-by-state requirements. Unlike standard P&C licenses, specialty licenses often require deeper regulatory knowledge, and many businesses don’t realize they may not qualify for the license they assume they need.
What role does industry collaboration, such as involvement with SILA, play in the team’s work?
Industry collaboration is key to staying ahead of regulatory changes. Our team actively engages with SILA, and Thomas Smith, a SILA-A designated specialist, works closely with regulators even advising on updates to outdated applications. This involvement helps us provide clients with the most accurate, up-to-date licensing guidance available.
Can you share any success stories or examples of how this team has helped clients?
We’ve helped clients avoid costly mistakes by guiding them to the right licenses upfront. In some cases, businesses thought they needed an MGA license, but after reviewing their operations, we identified a more suitable and faster-to-approve option. Our direct relationships with regulators also help speed up approvals, reducing delays that could otherwise stall business operations.
How does the Specialty Licensing Team fit into ReSource Pro’s broader compliance strategy, and what’s next for its growth?
Our team strengthens ReSource Pro’s end-to-end compliance solutions by handling the complex licensing needs that many competitors overlook. We’ve built a specialized team with deep expertise, and we’re continuing to refine our processes and expand our capabilities. As regulations evolve, we’ll stay ahead of changes, enhance our technology-driven solutions, and keep providing clients with the most efficient and cost-effective licensing support available.
